It was summer break from school last month and once again the time when mobs of 10-12 years olds consider your home a thoroughfare and also a convenience stop for a drink and a snack! Most times, these convenience stopovers would be without any kind of prior intimation and the group that would stop by would be so famished that they would probably end up eating your dining table if you don’t put food on it in matter of minutes!!
I was left with no choice but to come up with some really super quick fix snack dishes that too within minutes to feed the excited gathering of children. Once such dish that everyone loved this summer is what I call… The Tangy Cheese Chaat.
To get going, you will need….
15-20 Chaat Puris (the flat ones used for Sev puri & other chaat dishes)
200g Plain Sev
4-5 tbsp Tomato Ketchup
Amul Cheese Spread
15-20 ½ inch Cheese cubes
Add the Sev and Tomato Ketchup in a large mixing bowl and mix well. If the mixture is too dry, add some more ketchup. If it looks runny or too wet, then add some more Sev.
Apply cheese spread on one side of the flat puris and place them on a serving dish. On each puri, add a dollop of the sev mix. Sprinkle a pinch of chaat masala and finish it by topping it with a cheese cube.
If you like, garnish it with chopped coriander or chopped mint leaves or pomegranate seed.
Your dish is ready to serve. Watch the famished army wipe out the snack dish in minutes, with a smile of victory on your face!
The sev mix can easily be replaced with other easy to get ready toppings. On one occasion I tried using a mix of Khara Boondi mixed with thick yogurt, salt, chilli powder, jeera powder and chaat masala. And garnished it with finely chopped coriander.
Maybe you want to try a mixture of finely chopped cucumber, onion and carrot mixed with sour cream, salt and pepper, garnished with parsley?
It’s fun to make, it’s fast and it’s easy.
All-time hit and anytime snack! Go try it out today…
And I will see you soon…. S’long! And Yummy Expressions!!
